World’s First HSPA+ Smartphone Huawei U8800 IDEOS X5

At the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Huawei declared its plan in the year, which contains to release its upgraded Android Smartphone IDEOS series. We are glad to find Huawei U8800 IDEOS X5 (Huawei Titan) is already on the market for sale, earlier than what we expected. And it seems this first HSPA+ Smartphone has attracted many consumers’ eyes. Someone compare it with iPhone, in my opinion, although Huawei IDEOS X5 is focusing on the mid-high phone market, but there is still a long way to go and reach top level. Objectively speaking, Huawei U8800 is good Smartphone to have with low cost and high value if you can’t accept iPhone’s  price.

Based on Android 2.2(Froyo), Huawei U8800 IDEOS X5 appeared with capacitive touchscreen sized 3.8 inches. It’s wide enough for an Android Smartphone, but by wide screen, it doesn’t mean that this cell phone has huge size, in the contrary, IDEOS X5 sized 120*62*11.6mm, which very fit in the grip. With the weight 130 grams, it’s not too heavy or too light for a mobile.

Camera provided by Huawei IDEOS X5 is 2593*1944 pixels or 5 megapixels, but when putting it in practice, it’s a little disappointing. With decent lighting the camera is decent but with low lighting it’s even worse than a 3mp camera, and the HD video recording capability is not as good as they said. However, other practical functions are really good, such as WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS, Games, MP3/MP4, Document viewer, Photo viewer/editor, etc.

The main highlight of Huawei U8800 Titan is its HSPA+ connectivity allowing 14Mbps data speeds, essentially meaning you could download a 1GB movie in less than a minute and a half. To benefit from that capability though, you’ll need to have a carrier that supports the HSPA+ standard. Huawei IDEOS X5 could support UMTS 900/2100 and GSM 850/900/1900/2100, which means it could support almost all the network over the world.

Most of the users may not know the Huawei U8800 Android Smartphone has the functions of Modem and Hotspot. When the user put usable SIM card in and connect the phone to PC, after installation of software, it could support the PC to get internet access. And after activating the Portable Hotspot application, The Huawei IDEOS X5 could support multiple Wi-Fi enabled devices to surfing the internet simultaneously.

Considering it could be upgraded to Android 2.3 and price around 350.00USD, Huawei U8800 IDEOS X5 Android Smartphone is comparatively more practical and economical. It’s value outweigh its expense already.
